This year was met with unexpected challenges, surprising achievements, and a lot of uncertainty. I became a Rhodes Scholarship Finalist, applied to medical schools, and was awarded couple scholarships, and just recently broke my wrist and got a surgery. but most importantly, I met a life-changing mentor, Alan, who's been battling lung cancer for more than 7 years. Meeting him respired my joy and interest in science, but most importantly, made me pivot to tackle cancer and learn more about it to help people like Alan. I got a few big and exciting idea nuggets on this that may reshape my trajectory. That being said, after I graduate, I plan to finish up my project on frataxin deficiency at the Kaeberlein Lab and potentially intern at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Medical Research Institute during the summer. I also will be moving to Boston with my best friends in the summer and work as a research associate with Dr. Neal at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard for 2-3 years before applying to medical schools.
